Famous musician and businessman Kanye West made some anti-Semitic remarks and was instantly punished. There are boundaries that even very rich people cannot afford to cross. Yelena Likhach wrote about it in her blog on Medium.
It is worth remembering that it is unclear why in social networks West repeated the long-standing legend of the ‘worldwide Jewish conspiracy’, i.e. some kind of secret alliance of Jews and Freemasons aimed to establish global domination. For doing this, his profiles were instantly blocked by Twitter and Instagram.
«Such nonsense was forgotten after World War II, along with the fall of the Nazi and Fascist regimes in Europe. Although some marginalized people and some crazy citizens are still spreading them,» stressed Yelena Likhach.
The blogger tried to understand the motives behind West’s behaviour. Thus, several years ago, the musician claimed to have mental health problems. Then he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a condition formerly known as manic depression. In such a condition, the patient often has severe extreme mood swings.
West also admitted that at one time he was seriously addicted to drugs. First, he had liposuction on his face. Then he became so addicted to powerful painkillers prescribed by doctors after surgery that he ended up in the hospital in 2016.
Nevertheless, Yelena Likhach does not consider these facts as reasons for anti-Semitic statements. «The thing is that crazy junkies don’t make billions on creative projects. Yet, fabulously rich characters sometimes do shameful things just because they can. Or they think they can,» emphasized the blogger.
Indeed, the development of events revealed that West understood everything and regretted what he had done. Because the other day he had apologized for his remarks during a conversation with journalists. The reasons are prosaic – cooperation with the rapper stopped by Balenciaga, Adidas and Vogue. After all, the world’s brands want nothing to do with anti-Semites. After that, Kanye went from being a billionaire to a millionaire. In just one day, he lost more than $1.5 billion. While a year ago his fortune was estimated at $6.6 billion, today it is only $400 million.
The musician treats money with awe. For example, the provocative content of the White Lives Matter sweatshirt has recently been pointed out to him. The rapper responded sharply, “I sell these T-shirts. No one can come between me and my money”.
It happened in October at Paris Fashion Week. Then Kanye went public in a black sweatshirt that said White Lives Matter. Several models of his clothing and footwear brand Yeezy, which was released in collaboration with Adidas, were similarly dressed up. At the time, the German company said it would reconsider its business agreement with West and his brand because it “does not want to act as a lightning rod.” The last straw for Adidas, though, was the anti-Semitic scandal.
“Kanye West thought he could broadcast and do whatever he wanted. “I can say anti-Semitic things, and Adidas can’t leave me. What now?» he said. But the thing is, Adidas did, and West didn’t,” summed up Yelena Likhach.
Earlier, the blogger called for reducing the world’s excessive consumption and stopping global warming, which causes natural disasters in the world to occur more frequently and their consequences to become increasingly tragic, claiming the lives of millions of people.
